When I photographed Detroit\u2019s Renaissance Center in early January 2016, it was extremely cold and the strong gusts of wind didn\u2019t help to get it done. I had just come from a tour through the more derelict parts of Metro Detroit and standing in front of the tall building I didn\u2019t know if I should feel safe or get ready to run. There was nobody on the streets.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The building is actually a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers and it is owned by General Motors as its world headquarters. Unbelievable, that the central tower, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, is the second tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere, not too far away from abandoned high schools, eerie churches, dysfunctional water reservoirs, and a burning car on the side walk.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Two years later, in 2018, I noticed a lot of change for the better. Downtown felt safer, there were people about and even food trucks. Keep it up, Detroiters!<\/p>\n
